New IGAR takes baton from Maj Gen CA Krishnan

Maj Gen UK Gurung, YSM takes over as the IGAR (S) from Maj Gen CA Krishnan, AVSM.
IMPHAL September 23: In a ceremony held at HQ IGAR (South) Mantripukhri, Major General  UK Gurung, has taken  over as the Inspector General Assam Rifles(South) from Major General CA Krishnan, today, stated a PRO IGAR release.

Major General UK Gurung, arrived from New Delhi on Tuesday last to assume command of Headquarter IGAR (South).

Further according to the release Major General CA Krishnan, relinquished his command after a very eventful and fruitful tenure which saw HQ IGAR(South) attain new pinnacles of glory.

He successfully and effectively handled the ongoing counter insurgency operations in Manipur. The General officer successfully worked towards making IGAR (South) true ‘Friends of Manipur’. He was instrumental in executing large number of meaningful civic action projects across the state which has had a positive impact towards development of the society, specially the remote areas and of restoring peace and prosperity.  A record number of misled youths including two valley based insurgent groups KCP (MC) Lallumba and PULF (Umar Farooque) laid down arms and returned to the mainstream during the past two years, the release added.

Major General CA Krishnan, and his wife were given a warm farewell during the ceremony held at Mantripukhri.

During his farewell, he appealed to the people of Manipur to participate in the peace process, hand in hand with Assam Rifles and Army. He expressed his gratitude to all sections of people including civil administration, Government of Manipur and members of the media of the state for their unstinted support ,constructive criticism and affection. He also congratulate the new IGAR(South) on taking over the baton and wished  him for his tenure in the state, the release added.
