IMPHAL, Sept 25: Angered by the artificial scarcities of essential commodities and the subsequent rise of prices of daily requirement commodities caused by the current economic blockade and counter blockade agitations of different communities, irate local residents of Pallel areas conducted drives by visiting various local shops at Pallel area today and seized huge amounts of essential commodities which were kept at godowns maintained by businessmen of the area.

The drive against the price hike at Pallel bazaar was jointly conducted by volunteers of Social Development Organisation Pallel Maning Leikai, Youth Volunteer Association Pallel Mamang Leikai and activists of the Women development organization Pallel.

On the other hand, representatives of these organizations also expressed that the present drive was initiated by these social bodies as a mark of protest against the selling of various essential commodities at outrageously high rates by the shopkeeper. They further echoed that the people have suffered enough due to the economic blockade.

Further maintaining that the seized commodities will not be disposed off, they informed that it will be returned to the shopkeepers if they agree to sell them at reasonable prices.

They have also appealed to both the economic blockade and counter blockade supporters to withdraw their agitations considering the grievances of the common people in the state.
