RIMS to complete 40 years today

IMPHAL, Sept 13: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has been able to deliver good healthcare services in the whole northeastern region.

Established in the year 1972, the RIMS will complete 40 years of its existence on September 14.

Addressing media persons today, director RIMS, Prof S Sekharjit stated that the institute has got the state of the art infrastructure which makes the RIMS one of the prominent medical institutes in the country.

He further asserted that the intake for MBBS students has also been increased from 75 to 147 seats. The RIMS will soon have dental college and nursing college for post-graduate courses.

The hostel buildings and other infrastructures of RIMS will also be further developed soon from the funding of Central government, the director noted.

Dwelling on the problems faced by the RIMS due to the ongoing economic blockades, Prof Sekharjit stated that sufficient quantity of oxygen and life saving drugs is in stock and routine operations in the hospital have resumed since last Monday.

However, he expressed apprehension of the stock of oxygen and life saving drugs getting depleted again if the economic blockade continues on the national highways.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and the Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya will grace the foundation day tomorrow as the chief guest and president respectively.
