Seminar on minorities` welfare programme held

IMPHAL, Sept 23: A one-day state level seminar cum awareness programme on “Prime Minister’s new 15-Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities” was organized by All Manipur Meitei Christian Forum at Kakching Multipurpose Community Hall today.

The inaugural function of the seminar was attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam, MLA Y Surchandra, MLA M Hemanta, MLA U Deben and Helim Choudhury, chairman of Manipur State Minority Commission as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Rev Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North East Support Centre and Helpline, public relation officer of All India Christian Council and national secretary of All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations and Rahijuddin Sheikh, former secretary of Manipur State Minority Commission spoke on Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities as resource persons.

Speaking at the occasion, MPCC president Gaikhangam stressed on the tasks taken up by the UPA government for the welfare of the common people.

He said that the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme itself is a visionary programme aimed at uplifting the status of minority people.

Gaikhangam further appealed to the people to shun any undemocratic movement in view of progress and development of the state.
