Tamenglong to have youngest candidate in general election

IMPHAL September 23: As preparations for the upcoming 10th Assembly Elections for the aspiring candidates are gathering momentum, Tamenglong 53 ST assembly constituency could witness the youngest candidate amongst the fray in the state.

35 year old Janghemlung Panmei is all set to contest the forthcoming election and to give his competitors a run for their money.

“It doesn’t matter that much whether I win or lose. I have been doing my service to the people and for the development of this area and I will keep on doing so irrespective of winning or losing”, he told IFP.

“Though having legislative power will mean that I can push forward the mandate of the people even more effectively”, he added.

Youngest son of RK Ragaisin, C.E.O. of Tribal Affairs (District Council), Janghemlung finished his graduation in Political Science from Kirorimal College and has an MBA degree from Skyline Business School, New Delhi. He is presently the managing director of Axial Builders Pvt. Ltd. Manipur and before that worked as a manager at Zorbas Consultancies, New Delhi.

“My main agenda is to establish better road connectivity, the Tamenglong Haflong road, Tamenglong Nagaland road, KT road and upgradation of T Khongsang, providing power to the villages, health and education and safe drinking water are my main objectives”.

Since 2010, Janghemlung has undertaken construction of Haochong area road, Khumji to Kajinlong road, Awang Khul area road and played a major role in the revocation of SDC office, Haochong. He also installed eight transformers in different areas.

“I might get the Congress ticket also”,he said candidly.

Meanwhile election fever runs rampant at the said constituency, supporters of sitting MLA Khangthuanang Panmei and ex minister Samuel Jendai have started rallying support also.

On Wednesday last, Tamenglong headquarters saw a massive turnout of supporters from the different zones for an informal ‘show of strength’ held at the respective venues of the three candidates. Attendance signatures of thousands were recorded at each venue. The constituency has a voting capacity of at least 24,000.
