TDC demands compensation for 29 trucks burnt during blockade violence

IMPHAL, Sept 19: The Transporter and Drivers’ Council, (TDC) Imphal has decided to pressurize the state government for providing adequate compensations for the trucks which were burned down by the blockade supporters along the existing National Highways of the state since initiation of the economic blockade and bandh in connection with the Sadar issue.

Mentioning this, Ibohal Singh, vice present TDC during the press conference held this evening at their office at MG Avenue, further mentioned that, as of now a total of 29 goods carrier trucks including 14 trucks along the National -39, six trucks along the National Highways -150 Imphal-Ukhrul road and nine trucks along the NH-53 have been burned down by suspected blockade supporters.

Above the burning of the trucks, a driver was killed while several others injured during the attacked by the agitators Sadar Hills related incidents, he added.

He also mentioned that, the council in its executive meeting held recently had decided to pressurize the state government for the provision of ex-gratia for the victim drivers and also compensation for the lost vehicles.

He further stated that altogether 232 goods laden trucks from Jiribam have reached Imphal without any disturbances under a tight security escort from Jiribam till Imphal today, and also added that there are reports of three goods carrier trucks stranded at three different locations along the Imphal Jiribam road due to mechanical problems and a team of TDC led by its president H Ranjit have rushed to the spot and all stranded trucks have been pulled inside the nearby security camps of Assam Rifles and CRFP located along the National Highway 37 (53) this afternoon, he added.

He further appreciated the recent initiative of the state government to provide adequate security forces including central paramilitary forces along the National Highway-37 (53) for protecting the transporters, he added.
