Thousands hold solidarity protest and fast in various areas of Sadar Hills

A sit-in-protest being staged at Motbung bazaar in solidarity to the hunger strikers and injured victims, demanding full fledged District of Sadar Hills on Sunday.
IMPHAL, Sept 11: Showing solidarity to the hunger strikers and those persons injured during the agitations for the demand of Sadar Hills district, a mass sit-in-protest and one-day hunger strike was staged in different part of the Sadar Hills area today.

A large number of people converged at Saikul bazaar to offer mass prayer. Service began from 6 am in the morning till late in the evening under the banner “Fasting Prayer Service”.

Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the service, Tonglet Chongloi of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) decried the government’s indifferent attitude towards the sufferings of the people of Sadars Hills.

He asserted that despite all odds the gathering has re-affirmed to fight unitedly until their demand is fulfilled.

In Sapermaina, large number of women folk turned out observed a mass fasting under the banner “one day mass fasting cum sit in protest”.

Vachin a women representative said that the fasting women converged today has brought their share of rice as a mark of solidarity to the fasting men and women demanding Sadar Hills district. The collected rice will later be handed over to destitute families.

Similar protest and mass prayer services was also observed at Leikot, Hengbung, Motbung, Gamgiphai, Kangpokpi.  

In the meantime, two women protestors who were alleged sustained serious injury due to atrocities meted out by the 43 AR on September 9 has been referred to KCC hospital Imphal and their condition is said to be serious.
