Two non locals killed; police herd others to safety

IMPHAL, Sept 18: Two non-locals were shot death by armed miscreants in separate incidents in the past two days.

In the first incident a non-local identified as one Upender Mukhia, 30, s/o Halkhiri of Jodhpur village, Sitamari district of Bihar was found shot death at Nagamapal Soram Leirak last evening at around 5 pm by residents of the area.

Upender is reported to be a mason and currently residing at a rented house at Kangjabi Leirak.

Police sources informed that the victim was shot from close range. The dead body bore a bullet mark on his left temple with the bullet exiting through his head at the right side. A bicycle belonging to the victim was also found lying near the incident site.

An FIR has been lodge at the concerned police station.

Another non-local man was also shot death at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai today morning around 8:30 am.

The deceased identified as one Kamles Das, 23, s/o Babulal of Sangkhetpur Pakhal, Bihar was found lying on the roadside, after locals came out hearing a gun-shot.

Police sources said that the victim is a Labourer and currently residing at a rented house at Uripok area.

He received a bullet on his head and is believed to have been shot at close range, said the police. One fired case of 9mm pistol was also found from the incident spot.

Police have lodged an FIR in connection with the crime.

In the wake of the serial killing police have beefed up security measures in the state, and as a part of its security arrangement, non-locals scattered at different parts of Imphal area have been gathered and provided with shelter at Dharamsala since early morning.

Both the dead bodies have been handed over to family members after post mortem at the RIMS.
