IMPHAL Sept 8: The proscribed UNLF has questioned the genuineness of the surrender ceremony held at Leimakhong yesterday.
A statement of the outfit issued by senior publicity secretary Ksh Yoiheiba said that the army has been threatening the families of Thanga and Karang area among others to persuade those who joined the UNLF ranks to surrender or face dire consequences.
Some of those who are mentally weak give in to the pressure, it said.
In fake surrender programme yesterday, one MPA cadre namely,2nd Lt. Oinam Chairellakpa alias Guneshwor s/o Shamungou of Thanga Chinkha of 292 Bn reportedly surrendered before the GOC Red Shield Division. In actuality, he was hurt in a skirmish with the enemy at Khengjoi in 2008. He left for treatment purpose but failed to return to the unit and had also landed up in jail.
It is not surprising that he surrendered, as the families of Karang are constantly harassed and threatened by security personnel and some give in to the pressure. The outfit further states that another supposed cadre of the outfit who surrendered yesterday, namely Tongbram Mitlang alias Babuthoi of Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai is not related with the UNLF in any manner, he is a part of the surrender drama made complete by using other demoralized cadres of nameless outfits from Nagaland.
Besides, the surrender ceremony organized on September 2 in which cadres of the outfit namely, Sgt. Maj. Liankhosian alias Samboy , Sgt. Maj. Propolin alias Papao, Sgt. Maj. N Gulkhochon alias Ngampao, all residents of Churachandpur district and private Soubam Somen alias Ningaidaba of Imphal East are not related with the outfit in any manner. This is a fabricated surrender by the security forces to malign the image of the outfit but such endeavors will not affect the revolutionary movement at all, it said.
