IMPHAL, Sept 9: In an apparent defense against domestic violence and torture, a 36-year-old woman killed her husband using a machete at around 10:30 pm yesterday at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai, Imphal.
The deceased has been identified as Laishram Brojen, 36, s/o Kameshwar of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai. He was serving as the driver of 5th IRB.
According to police source, the culprit identified as Mutum Ningol Mala alias Manimala killed her husband at their rented house at Chingmeirong yesterday night.
She told police that her husband tortured her on many occasions. On the fateful day, he came home drunk and began to harass her.
Unable to bear the torments, she hit her husband on his head with a machete. Thereafter, she fled the house and surrendered before Imphal Police Station. However, she was later handed over to Lamphel Police Sation .
On the other hand, the family members of the deceased stated that Mala and Brojen had remained separated for about two years due to personal differences but reunited only three months back on the insistence of the family members.
The police have also registered an FIR regarding the case .The dead body was handed over to the family members after conducting the post-mortem examination at RIMS.
