ZU decries rumours

IMPHAL, Sept 12: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) fervently condemned the violent incident occurred on September 10, triggered by a rumour of suspected blockade supporters attacking goods trucks and a driver killed.

In a statement the AZSU said that acting on the rumours local populace of Moidangpok area blocked the buses coming from Tamenglong and Jiribam at Keithel manbi whereas Alto cars (bearing registration No. MN01W-4837) and Maruti Van (bearing No. 5596) escorted by the local people of Moidangpok by giving fabricated assurance to allow free passage. But on reaching Moidangpok, the occupants of the vehicles were asked to alight from their seats and threatened with dire consequences shouting communal slogan, it alleged.

It further alleged that a woman occupant of the Alto car was dragged to secluded place and physically assaulted by some local women of the area.

The AZSU condemned the state government for being silent and reluctant to take up any punitive action against the culprits. It strongly urged the timely intervention of the government before any unwanted communal tension erupts.

The union also called upon the drivers and mortors’ worker union not to furnish fabricated news and unnecessary allegation asserting that the allegation of UNC blockade supporters burning of trucks in between Keimai and Sembilon recently by heavily armed miscreants is baseless.

Meanwhile, the union asked the opinion of the intellectual MLAs, ADC members of the Zeliangrong to clarify their stand on the present issue through the media.
