282 vehicles reach Imphal from Moreh under heavy security provision

MOREH, October 2: Altogether 282 vehicles stranded at Moreh were escorted back to Imphal by a team of Chandel Police led by additional SP Chandel and OC, Moreh today.

Altogether 327 vehicles including Tata Sumos, trucks, vans, buses and other private vehicles reached Moreh yesterday. The spontaneous arrival of the vehicles at Moreh had caused inconvenience to both the transporters and the passengers regarding lodging and fooding.

Meanwhile, passengers and transporters of the 282 vehicles that had left Moreh for Imphal were allegedly inflicted with inconveniences at the Khudenthabi Assam Rifles post, where they were made to queued for several hours stated some passengers.

Some of the passengers irked with the long checking stated that they were not against the check, but further expressed that the check could have been done in a better way.

“I came out early in order to catch a vehicle without having lunch but the long queue for checking has left me starved for many hours” said a passenger.

In the wake of the agitations of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee and United Naga Council, the government had made temporary security arrangement to escort vehicles plying along Imphal-Moreh road. As per the provision of the security arrangement all vehicles should report the concerned security escort centre within 6 am to 9 am where checking will be done. However after the checking, the Khudenghtabi AR post conducted another round of checking.

The 282 vehicles left Khudengthabi for Imphal around 12:45 pm after the checking there. The remaining vehicles will be escorted tomorrow.
