Around 700 trucks reach Imphal from Jiribam amidst tight security escort

IMPHAL, October 11: The 120 hours general strike imposed by the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) since 6 pm October 8 in demand for a separate Jiribam district has adversely affected normal life in the sub-division on a large scale.

The strike will end on 6pm of October 13.

The district came to a grinding halt till date since 6 pm of October 8 with all the educational institute, government offices, and business establishments remaining shut. Various forms of transportation including inter state passenger buses stayed off the roads.

The streets wore a deserted look with the strike supporter barring people from crossing the Jiri-Cachar Bridge.

Effigies of Chief Minister, O. Ibobi Singh and local MLA and law minister Th. Debendra were set ablaze by the protestors this morning around 10:30 am.

Meanwhile, convoy of about 700 trucks stranded at Jiribam has been escorted to Imphal under heavy security measures.
