Blockade supporters overpower escorts, set FCI truck ablaze

IMPHAL, October 6:: A rice laden truck of the FCI was set ablaze by suspected UNC blockade supporters late in the evening today along the National Highway 37 (formerly known as 53) near Noney.

According to reports at least 394 trucks were escorted back to Imphal by security personnel from Awangkhul today. However the ill fated truck which was among the convoy of trucks stayed behind after the vehicle developed a snag.

After some repairing the trucks proceeded towards Imphal escorted by Noney police however on reaching Rangkhong village seven kms before reaching Noney, a large number of people suspected to be UNC blockade supporters overpowered the escort personnel and set ablaze the truck at around 7:30 pm.

The registration number of the truck has been established as MNO6-0537.

Meanwhile, the convoy of trucks has arrived at Imphal late in the evening without any damage.
