Chidambaram to assess law and order situation; scarcity of essential commodities during two day visit

IMPHAL, October 30: The Union home minister P Chidambaram will be on a two day visit to the state from November 2 to assess the various issues plaguing the state including the presnt law and order situation and scarcity of essential commodities including petroleum products in the state.

According to a reliable source, the main objective of the Union minister’s visit will be to assess the present law and order situation in the state, progress of the Jiribam-Imphal-Tupul rail line and other developmental programmes taken up along the national highways, though he will be inaugurating some completed projects including the Senapati mini secretariat during his visit.

The union minister will also assess the scarcity of essential commodities including petroleum products in the state.

He will be flown in directly from New Delhi by a special BSF helicopter and after landing at Kangla at 10:40am, he will be flown to Senapati district hq by a Mi-17 chopper where he will inaugurate the Senapati mini secretariat and a 50-bedded district hospital.

Further according to the source, he will inaugurate the newly constructed SDO and SDPO office complex, a 132 KV power sub-station and a Public Health Centre building at Jessami.

The minister will also address a public meeting at Jessami and leave for Imphal at 1:30pm the same day.

Later, starting from 3pm, he will chair a series of review meetings of various issues of the state including the law and order and scarcity of essential commodities at Raj Bhawan. The review meetings will be attended by the state Governor, Chief Minister, ministers, department heads and other officials concern of the Northeast Frontier railway, the source further added.
The next day on November 3 at 8am, the Union minister will leave Imphal for Tamei and Tousem sub divisions, Tamenglong district where he will inaugurate two  33/11 KV sub stations at the sub divisions.

At 10:25am he will inaugurate Tamenglong Mini secretariat complex and the newly constructed Jawahar Navodiya Vidyalaya at Tamenglong district hq.
He will also address a public meeting at the Tamenglong public ground, the source added.

He will later return to Imphal at 1:35pm and after a short rest, will leave Imphal by the same helicopter he came in for Guwahati at 3:30pm.
The Union minister will be accompanied by Union home secretary RK Singh and jt secretary NE in charge Sambhu Singh. 

Meanwhile, a special security meeting will also be convened tomorrow under the chair of chief secretary DS Poonia at his old secretariat official chamber. The meeting is also likely to be attended by the state DGP, officials concerned of the army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF to chalk out the security strategies of the proposed visit, the source added.

The source further mentioned that, the DC Tamenglong has been officially informed to convene a district level officers meeting tomorrow. The DC has further been advised to invite executive engineer (PWD), Tamenglong, EE (PHED), Tamenglong, EE (Electricity), Tamenglong, CO 11 Assam Rifles deployed at Tamenglong, CO 10 Dogra, CO 86 BN CRPF, CO 143 CRPF, SP Tamenglong, CO 5 MR to discuss the official coordination and logistic security arrangement for the proposed visit of the Union home minister.
