Decamped MR men arrested with weapons

IMPHAL, October 6: The Tengnoupal Police have arrested three personnel of the 7th Manipur Rifles including a Jemander and havilder of Moreh post who reportedly deserted their camps along with several weapons this early morning.

The MR deserters have been identified as one Jemandar Seikhohao, Havildar Seikhogin and Riflemen M. Ajit Singh.

Besides the deserters the police also arrested the driver of the van and a woman.

According to a reliable source, the MR men left their post early this morning around 5 am in a Maruti van bearing registration no MN04A/4900 along with several weapons and ammunitions without informing their higher authorities.

However following a message passed on to the Tengnoupal Police by the Moreh MR post, the three were arrested by the Tengnoupal Police at Tengnoupal around 8:30 am and recovered the weapons which they had taken along.

The recovered weapons included three AK-47 assault rifles along with 9 magazine and 270 live ammunitions and 9mm pistol along with two magazine and 18 live ammunitions.

The Moreh Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident. The arrested MR men have been reportedly handed over to the Imphal Police station.

The detailed reports of the incident could not be acquired till the filing of this report.
