Education volunteers agitates aginst recruitment of primary teachers

IMPHAL October 21: Decrying the notification of the principal secretary education (s) regarding recruitment of primary teachers made yesterday, the All Manipur Education Volunteers Welfare Association has locked up the offices of the SSA of all districts from today onwards.

Briefing media persons in the regard at Manipur Press Club, president of the association, Oinam Robin stated that the government has failed to acknowledge the long standing demand of the association to absorb the education volunteers as primary teachers for the newly upgraded 380 primary schools.

He said that under the Education Guarantee Scheme, the EV’s have been deputed to look after the welfare of the students and teaching the students in their respective villages. The EVs provided land and other resources for the benefit of the students and in the hope that, once the schools are upgraded then they would be given preference for the post of regular teachers by the government. The demand has not been discussed at the least by the concerned.

He further questioned that whether quality education can be tendered under the RTE Act if the long suffering volunteers are not appointed as teachers and whether the T.E.T. held recently was conducted only for trained entrants.

Moreover, he mentioned that the honorarium for the EV has not been given since the last 20 months. The association will press for their demand with various forms of agitations until addressed by the government, he added.

The offices of the ZEO of all nine districts, the SSA state mission authority has been padlocked by the disgruntled EVs.
