Explore and develop more tourist spots says tourism commissioner to Chandel

CHANDEL, Oct 23: The Chamdil festival of the Anal tribes was celebrated today under the theme “Cultural Renaissance” at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School Ground, Chandel.

While inaugurating the festival, tourism commissioner KK Chhetri stated that the Chamdil festival not only promotes the old aged traditions of the Anal tribes but also exposes the potentiality of tourism industry in the state.

He also appealed to the youths to explore and develop more tourist spots in Chandel district.

CO 42 Assam Rifles, Col Manikh Sinha stated that the Chamdil festival highlights the cultural heritage of the Anal Tribe and such celebration will enrich the cultural heritage of the Anal tribes.

Chairman of cultural organizing committee, TS Warngam stated that the Chamdil festival was traditionally celebrated at various Anal villages but the festival has been revived at the district level since 2004.

He also urged the tourism department to include the Chamdil festival at the state tourism festival in the days to come.

The festival was also attended by ex-minister BD Behring, officers of district administration and leaders of tribal, students and women bodies.

The tribes belonging to Lamkang, Moyon, Kuki, Chothe, Zou etc. also performed their traditional songs and dances during the celebration.

Prizes to the meritorious students were also distributed during the inaugural function of the festival.

Chandel Idol, fashion parade and other entertainment events will also be held as a part of the festival.
