Four UPPK cadres surrender with sophisticated weapons to Chief Minister

IMPHAL, October 10: Four active cadres of the United Peoples Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) this evening surrendered along with four sophisticated weapons before the state Chief Minister through Bishnupur SP Th Radheshyam, during a formal function at the Chief Minister’s secretariat. 

The surrendered militant cadres have been identified as private Akoijam Suranjit Meitei alias Bung alias Ayonba, 30, s/o Ak Khogen Singh of Iroisemba Manghiden Leikai, Imphal west, army number 133, who joined the outfit in the year 2009, pvt RK Shamson Singh alias Thabalcha, 30, s/o RK Suresh of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, with army no. 100, who joined in the year 2007, pvt Okram Rojen Meitei alias Rohen, 27, s/o (l) O Tomba Meitei of Keini Heikak Mapan, Imphal east, army no. 122 who joined the outfit in the year 2009 and pvt Ningthoujam Naoba Meitei alias Abung alias Kanbiba alias Tenis, 24, s/o N Shyam Meitei of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, who joined the outfit in the year 2007.

The militant cadres also surrendered before the Chief Minister one number of A-1 weapon, three HK-33 weapons, three magazines and 73 live rounds of A-1 rifle and nine magazines and 190 live rounds of HK-33.

Speaking during the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi expressed his happiness over the decision of the militant cadres to surrender before the law and further added that such steps will help in bringing peace and development in the state. Asked about the rehabilitation programmes of the surrendered cadres taken up by the government, the Chief Minister stated that many militants cadres have surrendered not only before the state government but also before the central security forces, and to incorporate such surrenderees into the mainstream, the state government alongwith the ministry of home affairs have started taking up various programmes for the former militants.

Supplementing the Chief Minister’s reply, state DGP Y Joykumar maintained that the government has recently started verification of various surrendered militant cadres in order to implement a surrendereee policy in the state and also added that upon verification, in some cases the results have been positive.

He further added that LM Khoute, addl DGP is heading the verification of the surrendered cadres and all details regarding the verification is available with him. 

Meanwhile, answering to queries from the mediapersons regarding the escape of KCP (MTF) publicity secretary Sunil Meitei from Imphal east PS, Chief Minister Ibobi elaborated that the militant leader escaped taking advantage of the old structure of the Imphal east police station. He has further added that all police stations in the state have been informed to remain alert regarding the incident.

Asked about the Sadar Hills issue, he stated that there lies a solution to every problem, and the state government is trying to solve the problem and as such the people should have faith in the government.
