Goods laden trucks stranded at Tatbung due to lack of escort

IMPHAL, October 9: Over hundreds of goods laden trucks are reportedly stranded at Tatbung and waiting for escort along the National Highway-37 Imphal-Jiribam today. The goods laden trucks were heading towards Imphal yesterday however due to absence of security escorts, the trucks were forced to halt near a security post at Tatbung.

On the other hand, a number of empty trucks which left Imphal this morning along the same highway have reached Jiribam under heavy security arrangement.

Owing to the 120 hour general strike imposed by the Jiribam Distict Demand Committee (JDDC) starting from 6 pm yesterday normal life was adversely affected in the Jiribam Sub-division.

All educational institution, government office remained closed. Business activities in the sub-division halted and vehicles stayed off roads due to the strike.

However there were no reports of any unwanted incidents till the filing of this report.

The JDDC imposed the 120 hours strike from 6 pm of October 8 till 6 pm of October 13 against the indifferent attitude of the government in solving the Jiribam issue.
