Governor greets on Diwali

IMPHAL, Oct 25: The Governor of Manipur, Gurbachand Jagat has greeted the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of “Diwali”, the festival of light which is celebrated all over the country with great enthusiasm and gaiety over the centuries.

He said Diwali marks the return of Bhagawan Ram to Ayodhya after victory over Ravana, and its symbolized the ultimate victory of virtue over vice and triumph of good over evil. Besides it is also an occasion to promote good-will and understanding amongst people of all caste, creed and religion, he said.

The people traditionally celebrate this festival by illuminating their homes to dispel darkness and to invoke the blessing of Goddess “Lakshmi” for peace and prosperity and let the lights of Diwali dispel enmity mistrust, bickering, conflict and disunity among the people of the state and the country, further asserted the Governor.

He also prayed that the festival herald a new era of peace, prosperity and harmony in the state.
