IMC ward members resolve to withdraw agitations

IMPHAL, Oct 9: The Imphal Municipal Council Elected Ward Development Committee Members’ Forum has resolved to withdraw its agitations following agreement with the state government.

A release of the forum stated that the members have been demanding the formation of ward development committees along with the establishment of offices and fixing of adequate honorarium for the members. Agitations including relay hunger strike have been conducted to draw the attention of the state government. However, an agreement was brought during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s chamber on October 8 which was attended by PDA chairman Dr Kh Loken, MANITRON Chairman Dr Kh Ratankumar, commissioner, additional secretary and director of MAHUD from the side of the state government while the general secretary and other members of All Manipur Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council Elected Ward Development Members’ Welfare Association represented the elected ward development members.

A memorandum of agreement was signed based on three conditions. It was agreed upon that the nomination of ward development members would be completed by October 17 and a workshop on Manipur Municipality Community Participation Act, 2010 would also be organized soon by MAHUD in consultation with the association. The association also agreed to withdraw all forms of agitations, the release added.
