IMPHAL, Oct 23: Security forces have arrested the KCP Noyon faction from Guwahati on October 22.
A combined team of Imphal east district, Thoubal and Bishnupur commandos assisted by the Assam Police arrested the self proclaimed army chief of Kangleipak Communist Party-Noyon faction from Guwahati on October 22.
The Superintendent of Police of Thoubal district, K. Jayenta Singh, in a statement revealed that the combined team acting on specific intelligence input about the presence of the top ranking leader of the outfit, conducted a search operation at Hatigaon area and arrested him at about 7:30 pm.
The arrested militant leader has been identified as one Waikhom Chittaranjan Singh alias Achouba alias Pibarel Mangang, 38, s/o (l) W. Imo Singh of Ningom Thongjao Pebia Pandit Leikai.
The team also recovered incriminating articles along with a lap-top and a mobile phone, it revealed.
As per preliminary interrogation, the arrested individual disclosed himself to be the army chief of KCP (Noyon) faction and has been operating from Guwahati since the past 3 to 4 months.
He has been handed over to the Hatigaon Police station, Guwahati for further investigation, further informed the release.
On the other hand, a combined troop of 23 Assam Rifles and 30 Assam Rifles claimed to have arrested two cadres of the proscribed KYKL today from Ukhrul district.
The PRO IGAR (S) in a statement has reported that on discovering movement of some militant cadres in the general area of Sanjeeban Saban Leikai and Takhel Maning Leikai, Ukhrul district and conducted a counter insurgency operation.
It claimed that during the operation the troops apprehended two cadres of the KYKL identified as one Akojan Sarat Singh, 40, s/o A Leimungba of Thertha Khunou, Imphal and Aharthem Ibochouba alias Panngak, 27, s/o A Thomba Singh of Gwaltabi, Imphal east.
The duo have been handed over to the Lamlai Police station, further informed the release.
