IMPHAL, Oct 13: Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate of Langthabal A/C, Karam Shyam has alleged the CPI candidate from the same constituency, Nongthombam Singhajit of assaulting his workers and sabotaging vehicles and equipments used in a public meeting yesterday.
Addressing media persons at Lilong Chajing Karam today, LJP candidate Shyam stated a political meeting was held at Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai yesterday night in connection with the coming assembly election. A group of unidentified persons suspected to be supporters of CPI candidate Singhajit attacked his workers with guns and swords on their way back to home at around 10 pm. Some of them were critically injured and they have been admitted to Shija Hospitals, he noted.
Shyam strongly condemned the attack and demanded the authorities concerned to take punitive action against the criminals.
He has also filed a compliant against CPI candidate on charges of assault and sabotage to Wangoi Police Station today.
