MPP leader and four others remanded to police custody

IMPHAL, October 31: The vice-president of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Y Mangi and other suspected militants, namely Y Biju, 33, s/o (late) Tomba of Khagempalli Panthak, Haobam Ranjit alias Lukhoi, 36, s/o Shyamkishore of Luwangsangbam, RK Joy alias Jai Singh, 44, s/o (late) Chinglensana of Luwangsangbam Makha Leikai and Yengkhom Then alias Kokeshore, 47, s/o (late) Y Singhajit of Kontha Khabam who were arrested by Imphal west police yesterday from Khagempalli Panthak were produced before CJM Imphal West and given police remand for nine days today.

Meanwhile, a statement of the SSP Imphal west have claimed that five members of the proscribed PREPAK were arrested yesterday from Khagempalli Panthak Bus parking at around 6:30om by a team of Imphal west commandos.

It has further stated that the five were traveling in a white Bolero Jeep bearing regd No. No.MN01-4A/6552 and that the police commando team was acting on credible information.

Interestingly one of the arrested men is identified to bear the same names as the arrested MPP leader.

The police list are: Yumnam Biju Singh, 33, s/o (L) Y. Tombi Singh of Khangempalli Panthak, Haobijam Ranjit alias Lukhoi, 36, s/o H. Shyamkeshor Singh of Luwangshangbam Mayai Leikai, R.K Joysana alias Joy Singh, 44, s/o (L) R.K Chinglensana Singh of Luwangshangbam Makha Leikai, Yangkokpam Thain alias Lokeshwor, 42, s/o (L) Y. Singhajit Singh of Kontha Khabam Leikai and Yanglem Mangi Singh, 60, s/o (L) Y. Lukhoi Singh of Luwangsangbam Mayai Leikai.

It said on spot verification, Biju disclosed to be working under the command of one Nongsaba of PREPAK since last month. From him two 9 mm pistol with a magazine and six live ammunitions and one Rage mobile handset were recovered, while one mobile handset and Rs 1000 in cash was recovered from the possession of Y. Mangi, the release added.

Biju further disclosed to have collected the two arms from Haobijam Ranjit Singh, the statement added.

The Bolero was used in transportation of arms-ammunitions and members of the outfit, the statement further said.
