IMPHAL, October 22: The “IX Indigenous Brothers’ Meet, 2011” was held today at Rupmahal Theatre, B.T road, Imphal organized by the League of the Fourth World People Kangleipak, North-Eastern Region of India.
A two day seminar on the “Indigenous Legendary Tales (Folk Tales) of all communities of Kangleipak (Manipur)” which will continue till October 23 was also inaugurated during the meet.
Speaking as the chief guest, CAF & PD, minister-N. Biren, expressed his optimism on the endeavour taken up by the league to help improve the complex situation of the state to a more peaceful and advanced society. He stressed the need for widespread observation of similar programmes at various corners of the state especially allowing mass participation of students to help understand the history and origin of the state better.
The minister further warned the people to be alert of some forces planning to disintegrate the state by demanding the so called “Alternative Arrangement” and disrupting normal life imposing various forms of agitations.
He appealed to all sections of the society to set aside issues based on a single community and to strive for a common goal.
Delivering his guest of honuor speech, Tamei MLA, Awangbou Newmai, said that the mutual respect is the only key in order to bring peace and sense of oneness in the state.
He appealed the people to preserve and uphold the indigenous cultures of the ethnic communities.
The programme was attended by Hungyo Meera Tangkhul and NL. Isaac Aimol, vice president of the League as the guest of honour. While the league president, Phoujairung Thaimei presided over the function.
Prof. Y. Mohindro Singh, chaired the meet as the moderator of the first day of the seminar.
