N Kotiswar appointed addl High Court judge

NEW DELHI, October 14 (MIC): In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President of India  has appointed four persons namely Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Ujjal Bhuyan, Swapan Chandra Das and  Prasanta Kumar Saikia, to be Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective office, sources from the Ministry of Law and Justice today said.

Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai is at present  the Advocate General of Manipur serving about four years in the post,  after an official  appointment order was issued on November 3, 2007.

Son of  Late Justice N Ibotombi Singh and Gomati Devi, 49 years old N. Kotiswar Singh began his schooling from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia in West Bengal and  completed Pre-University Course (Science) in St Anthony`s College, Shillong before graduating in Political Science from Kirori Mal College under Delhi University in 1983.

After obtaining the LL.B degree in 1986 from the  Campus Law Centre of Delhi University, Kotiswar  practised Law. He was also selected for the Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course in 1992 at University of London.

He had a brief stint in 1986-88 in the Supreme Court of India and had been practising in the Gauhati High Court in Constitutional law, Criminal, Civil and the lower courts and other tribunals.

Kotiswar who was now at Guwahati said that he would join the new post on October 17, 2011.
