Police foils education volunteers protest rally mid-way

IMPHAL, October 26: The All Manipur Education Volunteers Welfare Association organized a protest rally demanding the state government to absorb the education volunteers as primary teachers without any condition and to review the cabinet decision that had failed to reserve any seats for the education volunteers during upgradation of 380 primary schools with Education Guarantee Scheme Centres.

The volunteers numbering about a hundred took out the rally from Takhel Leikai, Sega road however the police stopped them at Keishampat Lairengjam Leikai area along the road before reaching their culmination point at Manipur Press Club.

Speaking to media persons, H Basanta Meitei general secretary AMVA has charged that the principal secretary education (s) department under the cover of the Right to Education Act has suppressed the education volunteers of EGS.

The volunteers further organised a meeting at the Manipur Press Club and took three resolutions.

During the meeting the volunteers also decided to launch agitations against the cabinet decision and have also set October 30 as deadline for a positive response from the government.

The volunteers further demanded a review of the cabinet decision.
