Proper health facilities lacking in rural areas says Chief Minister

IMPHAL October 10: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today laid the foundation stone for a 100 bedded hospital to be constructed at Mayang Imphal. He later also inaugurated the newly constructed Emoinu Shopping complex at Mayang Imphal bazaar.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the shopping complex, the Chief Minister emphasized that the present SPF government focuses on improvement of law and order situation, health and education sectors of the state.

He said that there are sufficient health facilities at Imphal area both government-run and private, whereas proper health facilities are lacking in the rural areas. The provision of building a new hospital at Mayang Imphal area has been felt by the government to provide adequate medical facilities to the public of the constituency and other adjoining areas. The emphasis is given by the government to decentralize power to the grass root levels for effective administration, there are plans for setting up similar medical facilities in the interior districts, he said.

Further, he also assured that many more developmental projects will be taken up at the constituency and rallied the public for support.

It may be mentioned that the proposed district hospital has acquired an area of 10 acres and the construction cost has been fixed at a total of 70 crores under the SPA. The construction of the Emionu Shopping complex was sanctioned by the union planning and development authority at a total cost of Rs 468.13 lacs.

The twin functions were attended by health minister L Jayantakumar, MLA Th Ratankumar, PDA chairman Kh Loken, deputy speaker Th Lokeshwor and MLA M Prithviraj along with the Chief Minister.
