RPF/PLA greets people on Mera Houchongba

IMPHAL, Oct 9: The proscribed RPF and its armed wing PLA have extended their warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Houchongba.

A statement of RPF issued by its publicity secretary T Leishemba stated that Mera Houchongba has been celebrated in Manipur since time immemorial to strengthen the bond of love and affection between hill and valley people. The people have realized the need for unity and brotherhood in the wake of divisive policies adopted by the colonialists.

It further stated that Mera Houchongba was celebrated from the time of Nongda Lairen Pakhangba till the reign of Maharaj Kulachandra in full swing. However, the celebration of Mera Houchongba became less popular due to the influence of the western power and under the Indian colonial rule.

Mera Houchongba revives the unity and brotherhood amongst different communities of the state and so all people must participate in celebrating the significant festival, the statement added.
