Singer Pahari fondly remembered on death anniversary

IMPHAL, October 18: The 5th death anniversary of Nongmaithem Pahari was observed today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Konung Lampak, Imphal.

The observation was attended by Thoidingjam Tombi, National Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee and B Jayantakumar Sharma, president of Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust as the chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, Th Tombi stated that music should be included in the curriculum of schools and colleges and so the authorities concerned should take up the initiative to introduce music classes even at the university level.

He further maintained that the contributions of Nongmaithem Pahari in the field of contemporary Manipuri music should be acknowledged by all.

During the observation, Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to eminent singer and music activist Aheibam Budhachandra Singh. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a shawl and a citation.

A song competition was also organized as a part of the observation.

Oinam Romen of Thanga Lawai, Chungkham Sangeeta of Thongju Part-II and Heisnam Bidyalakshmi of Kairenphabi Mayai Leikai bagged the first, second and third prize respectively in the competition.
