Speakers observe lack of mental hospital during Mental Health Day observation

    IMPHAL, October 10: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority in association with the Human Rights Law Network (Manipur) today organized a solemn function on Observance of World Mental Health Day at the premises of Spastic Society of Manipur, Ghari, Airport Road.

    According to a press release of the HRLN, K. Bipinchandra Sharma, District and Sessions Judge, Manipur West, A. Guneshwar Sharma, member secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority –cum- presiding officer, Revenue Tribunal, Manipur and A. Indrakumar Singh, president, All Manipur Bar Association graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

    During the function, Dr. S. Manikanta Singh, psychiatrist, Manipur Health Services delivered his speech on the “Role of Guardian and care giver towards mentally ill person”.
    Dignitaries, who were present in the function, also disclosed that Manipur should have amental hospital under the Mental Health Act, 1982, it added.

    During his presidential speech, A. Guneshwar Sharma highlighted the roles of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, which has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, for providing legal aids and steps taken up for speedy disposal of long drawn pending litigations by organizing Lok Adalat. At the same time he also highlighted the circumstances in which a person can obtain legal aid from the Manipur legal Services Authority, it added.
