State CPI holds rally in protest against price hike

IMPHAL, October 21: As part of the nation wide protest against price rise and pressure to pass stronger version of the Lok Pal Bill, the Communist Party of India, Manipur also organized a similar protest rally in Imphal east and Imphal west.

Over hundreds of CPI members took part in the rally that started from Krispa ground Sagolband till Imphal west district office Lamphelpat bearing banners saying “Bring amicable solution to the Sadar Hills district issue and for immediate deployment of Highway protection forces on National Highways 39 and 37 to end the present economic blockade”, “passing strong Lokpal bill in the winter session of the parliament to check corruption”, “immediate steps to roll back price rise of essential commodities” and “measures to check poll related violence” etc.

The rallyist also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India through the deputy commissioners concerned.

Speaking to media persons at the sideline of rally, Sekmai MLA, Borojao, said it has become indispensable for the state government to develop the two national highways of the state which are considered as the only lifelines and at the same time, implement the National Highway Protection Act.   

He further urged the government to bring an amicable solution to the prolong Sadar Hills issue which has given an adverse impact on the lives of the people of the state.

A similar protest rally was also organized in Imphal east district with participation of over hundreds of CPI members.

The rally started from Khurai Laikhulembi and proceeded towards Porompat DC office. The rally was however stopped at JNIMS by the district police. Later some selected representatives were allowed to submit a memorandum to the DC Imphal east.

Apart from the issue of price hike and Lokpal Bill, the common memorandum submitted to the DCs, signed by Dr. M. Nara, state secretary Manipur State Council, CPI, has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister, to bring an amicable solution to the Sadar Hill districts issue and for immediate deployment of Highway protection forces on both the NH-39 and 37 to end the present economic blockade.

The rally concluded peacefully without any untoward incidents.
