IMPHAL, Oct 12: The students’ bodies of the state comprising of AMSU, DESAM, KSA, MSF and SUK have jointly submitted a petition to the vice-chancellor of Manipur University today for the revival of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU).
The petition to the vice-chancellor mentioned that the conversion of State University to Central University has led to the suppression of democratic rights of the students to have a union of their own in the campus.
In the absence of the students’ union, the students of Manipur University have not only been deprived of their basic rights but also other opportunities under one common academic platform, it said.
The petition further mentioned that various unions such as MUTA, MUSA, MUOA and even association of contractors known as MUCA exist in the Manipur University campus, but the most important students’ union has not been allowed to function by the university authorities.
The students’ bodies demanded the university authorities to revive Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) as soon as possible.
