UKHRUL / Oct.27: Thousands of private school students of Ukhrul throng the most exited and “vulnerable knowledge bank” event to showcase the students’ talents, skills, intelligence on a viable common display competition platform, “walk, don’t run” 10th edition organised by the Great Reunion Society (Gee Aar) sponsored by the Ukhrul district administration in collaboration with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
The inter school level competition in a spectacular event was held yesterday in the presence of overwhelming students, teachers and audiences all vying for the occasion’s bonanza at the auditorium of the mini Secretariat hall.
The opening day also saw three consecutive marathon races of inter school level.
The event “walk, don’t run” organized by the Gee Aar Club aims to enhance quality education, inculcate sense of competition amongst students community by introducing them to various academic and non academic disciplines apart from daily chores of school curriculum.
It also aims to reserve a distinct path fostering opportunities for the students to spread their wings and hone their skills with various competitions including the spelling contest, GK, essay writing, verbal duels, quizzing, choral singing and choreography with their counterparts.
The Club so far had managed to stage the event in the years 1987,1988,1991,1994,1996,1997,2002,2003 and 2004 successfully up to the 9th edition whereas six years has elapsed, however the Gee Aar club is back again connecting the string of the exited and mega event with the help of the district administration. The teachers and students sighed while watching the events inside the colourful hall filled with multi-colored-uniforms of red, green, yellow, blue, pink, orange and white worn by the students of 13 different schools balancing the sentiments with the tunes of well fixed sound system or music control.
The events held during the occasion included the essay competition and drawing on the spot, spelling bee, quiz karaoke (trio), karaoke (quartet), Acappella (Octet), Choreography and the two most excited or interesting disciplines above all remained the event of “Just a Minute” (Jam) introduced by PK. Singh, IAS in 1996 and “Dumb Charade” by Arun Kumar Singha, IAS in 2002. The prize received by the overall champion according to the organizer is categorized as the DC’s trophy with Rs 5000/- plus trophy, SP’s trophy entitled for best discipline that carries Rs 5000/-plus trophy and third category (L) RN.
