ZUF says NSCN (IM)`s diktat upon Zeliangrong villages led to shoot-out

DIMAPUR, October 13 (Newmai News Network): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) alleged that the NSCN-IM has given immense hardship to the Zeliangrong villages.

Elaborating its allegations, the ZUF said the NSCN-IM only imposes its `military rule` in Zeliangrong region when there are so many Naga areas that are untouched by the latter outfit. It said mobile phones, satellite phones, WLL phones and other communication devices are seized in Zeliangrong villages whenever the outfit passses through those villages.

The ZUF further allege that rice and meat are forcibly asked by the NSCN-IM cadres from the Zeliangrong villagers instead of buying them.

Given this situation, the ZUF said the `Zeliangrong area` is not meant for the outsiders to be used as pawn. “Zeliangrong lands are precious and it cannot be exchanged for anything,” said the ZUF.

On the recent shoot out in Tamenglong district, the ZUF said it was a sad incident caused by the intrusion by outsiders that had disturbed the peaceful atmosphere. At any cost the ZUF/ZTF will safeguard the Zeliangrong lands. It then said no others had instigated the ZUF on any activity carry out by the ZUF. “It is natural for us to protect our land and we are doing it with our own volition,” said the ZUF today. It also said the ZUF is not against any ethnic group or community.

Meanwhile, the ZUF said it is glad that the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) had made its position clear by announcing not to touch the Zeliangrong lands. On the Sadar Hills issue, the ZUF said the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) will not be allowed to touch the Zeliangrong lands by even an inch.
