IMPHAL, Nov 16: The Core Committee of four autonomous district councils of Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong has decried the attack on minister Thaisii by some heavily armed assailants on November 12 in Senapati district.
A release of the committee stated that killing is a coward act and to achieve one’s goal at the cost of one’s life is not good in every aspect.
The committee also condemned the statement of Gaidong Kamei, secretary of UNC, which appeared in the local dailies saying that no Naga councilor would be allowed to come to their respective villages even after the expiry of the tenure and also to debar from campaigning the up-coming state Assembly election due to be held next year.
Reconstituting the district council is a constitutional mandatory process which is also for execution of ADCs as the local self government. The centre has also keen interest to resume the district council administrations so that effective development in the grass-root level could be taken up by decentralization, it said.
The present district councils are not just a body nor civil organization or appointed nor selected but elected through constitutional procedures. The amendment of the Act, 2008, and election of ADCs have come as per the provision of Article 371 of the Indian Constitution. The Councilors are not going to do anything against the interest of people but only to bring development in our areas. And every subject matter related to the hill areas have to consult the MLAs concerned.
On the other hand, the forum for Naga reconciliation comprised of prominent Naga civil leaders are progressively taking up for reforming the society. Their mission is effective in Nagaland and all the leaders of political party, Church, Civil organization, and intellectuals are involved contributing for the success of the mission. It is not worthy to question the stand of Nagas of Manipur whether we are moving backward when the rest of the people are going forward, the release mentioned.
All can clearly remember the speech of Z.Lohe, the advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, delivered on the occasion of launching a political party namely Naga People’s Front at Senapati where he said that Nagas should never stay away from the election but should bring the capable persons in the political platform for attaining the aspiration of the Nagas.
