BRO directed to develop highways ahead of BCIM car rally

IMPHAL, November 12: Considering that the proposed BCIM car rally which will be flagged-off from Kunming in China will be passing through the state, the special secretary planning has instructed the concern authorities of the Border Road Organization and the state works department to maintain the road conditions of the national highways of the state. The car rally will end at Kolkata.

The special secretary convened a special meeting on November 2 at his official chamber in response to a directive from the ministry of external affairs, GOI in connection with the proposed car rally.

The meeting was also attended by officials of BRO, state home department, commerce and industries and PWD.

According to a reliable source, principal secretary commerce and industries during the meeting proposed the participation of a state team in the proposed car rally.

Meanwhile, the PWD officials observed that the road condition from Moreh to Imphal is in good condition however the road condition of the Imphal-Jiribam road which is under the purview of BRO is not satisfactory. The department further observed that during the dry season, the Imphal-Jiribam road is also fit for the car rally.

Considering all opinions and deliberations of the officials, the meeting resolved that the state home department should provide security for the proposed car rally within the state, the BRO should provide proper and suitable road condition of the Imphal-Jiribam road stretch and that the planning department should request the DoNER and MEA for inclusion of participants from the state in the proposed car rally, the source added.
