Central sponsored pilot scheme launched at Tamenglong

IMPHAL, Nov 22: The Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY), a centrally sponsored scheme and implementing on pilot basis in 52 districts of the country of which Tamenglong district is one, was impressively launched today at Tamenglong Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong district headquarter.

According to a release from the organizers, the scheme is implemented by the state social welfare department in collaboration with the state medical department. The scheme was launched with a medical health camp cum awareness programme.

It has further informed that the Child Welfare Committee, Tamenglong (CWC), Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSU) and Indigenous Women and Children Foundation, Tamenglong (IWCF) organised the medical health camp cum awareness programmes.

Free medical services like injection of Titanus for pregnant, distribution of Iron & Folis Acid, etc, counselling to improve the health and nutrition status of pregnant, lactating women and infants by promoting appropriate practices, care and service utilisation during pregnancy, safe delivery and lactation; encouraging the women to follow (optimal) infant and young child feeding practices (IYCF practices) including early and exclusive breast feeding for the first six months and contributing to better enabling environment by providing cash incentives for improved health and nutrition to pregnant and nursing mothers were all done during the health camp, it added.

The camp was attended by more than 500 women, mostly pregnant and some lactating women. Series of such camps will be organised to reach out to every nook and corner of the district, it added.
