Chief Minister announces restricted automobile entry into Kangla

IMPHAL, November 20: Expressing concern over frequent entry of automobiles to Kangla demeaning the sanctity of the fort, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has today announced that all VVIPs vehicles except for the Governor will be restricted to enter the Kangla.

Ibobi who is also the president of Kangla Fort Board stated this during the observation of 7th Kangla Day held today at Kangla, Imphal.

He further expressed his unhappiness over certain government heads and officials taking the Kangla road as a ‘short cut’.

The Chief Minister further stated that the board is considering making Kangla, a carbon free zone and trying its best to preserve this historically significant place.

Ibobi maintained that this day is very significant for the state as the Kangla was formally handed over to the people by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2004.

Further elaborating on the handing over of the Kangla to the Kangla Fort Board, the Chief Minister further informed that all maintenance and developmental works of the Kangla are handled by the board.

The inaugural function was also attended by MLA L Nandakumar and MLA T Vaiphei.
