IMPHAL, Nov 30: The Coordination Committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK(Pro), RPF, UNLF & UPPK has called a 36-hour general strike starting from 4 am of December 3 to 4 pm of December 4 to boycott the visit of Prime Minister Manmohon Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to the state capital.
A statement issued by the Coordination Committee mentioned that the people of Manipur should not welcome the Indian leaders. The erstwhile independent nation of Southeast Asia was forcibly annexed by India on October 15, 1949. The people of Manipur have been deprived of the right to self-determination and sovereignty ever since they came under the clutches of colonial rule.
It further stated that the Indian government has introduced various divisive policies to disintegrate the unity of Manipur. Policies such as “cease-fire without territorial limit” and “supra state body” are part of divisive policies of the Indian government.
The issues of economic blockade and counter-blockade arise from the colonial policies of India. The people have been underestimated by the Indian government through mere grant meagre development fund. The people of Manipur should strive to be self-reliant and avoid dependence on the Indian government, the statement noted.
The Coordination Committee further appealed to the people to render utmost support to the boycott and bring forth the liberation movement of the region.
However, the general strike will be relaxed for religious ceremonies, media and essential services including medical, water, electricity and fire services, it added.
Meanwhile, the United Revolutionary Front of KCP Re-Conciliation Committee has also boycotted the visit of the Prime Minister, Manmohon Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on December 3.
A press statement by Korouhanba, convenor of the URF/KCP has stated that the Indian government is playing a divide and rule policy and is indifferent to the wishes of the public of the state.
The public should join hands in and cooperate with the revolutionary movement. It also mentioned that the public should refrain from coming to greet the visiting Prime Minister and the UPA chairperson by commercial vehicles and carry on with their usual duties. The KCP/URF has also condoled the demise of Maoist leader KR Kishenjee, the release added.
