COTA to restart agitation against government failure to implement revised pay commission

IMPHAL, November 24: The Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) has decided to intensify its agitation over the accumulated failure of the state government to fulfil its demands for the implementation of the sixth central revised pay in toto for the employees of the state.

This was informed by A Arunkumar, convenor, COTA during a press conference held this afternoon at TG Higher Secondary school Imphal.

He further demanded that, the Pay Implementation Cell of the state planning department should clarify the reason behind the failure of the government to implement the revised pay in toto for the employees of the state.

He further mentioned that, teachers under COTA have faced numerous hurdles while struggling for the implementation of the 6th Central revised pay for the employees of the state since May last year.

The association had started its agitation following the failure of the state to implement the revised pay scale even after an instruction from the Prime Minister of India to all state government through the Ministry of human resource development (HRD), he added.

He further mentioned that, it is very unfortunate that the state government has failed to keep its promises to the teachers community in connection with the implementation of the 6th central revised pay in the state.

He further criticised the officials of the PIC of the state finance department for misguiding the state cabinet by over calculating a financial involvement of over Rs 27 crores per month if the 6th central revised pay is implemented in the state as against the calculation of the association which comes to just about Rs 3 crore per month for the implementation of the pay scale, which has been already submitted to the state government, he added.

K Koireng Singh, co-convenor, COTA further supplemented that, the teacher community of the state has faced several troubles beyond their limit in consideration of the several grievances faced by the people of the state especially the student community.

He also added that the teachers cannot bear any more and under the COTA, the teachers have decided to launched ultimate forms of agitations against the government.

He further informed that as its first line of agitation, the teachers under the COTA will conduct sit in protests at their respective schools tomorrow. He further added that the teachers will follow the sit in protest with intensified agitations.
