IMPHAL, November 3: Demanding the revocation of recent cabinet decision on the merger of 502 employees of state excise department to disaster management department, the excise employees today staged a sit-in-protest demonstration at the office gate of directorate of excise, Lamphelpat.

Speaking to media persons, assistant commissioner of excise, K Joykumar Singh stated that the cabinet has recently decided to merge 502 employees out of 537 employees of excise department as disaster response force in disaster management department.

The cabinet decision is quite absurd as the disaster force should be recruited from amongst the personnel in active service. Moreover, most employees of excise department are near to their superannuation period and so it will be very unjust to merger the excise employees to disaster management, he asserted.
