FREINDS to complete six years

IMPHAL, Nov 15: The Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) has extended warm greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of its 6th foundation day.

The message from FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani mentioned the federation has been urging the state government to implement the Inner Line Permit System in the state since 2006 in view of safeguarding the indigenous people.

FREINDS has prevented some non-local businessmen from contesting municipal election in the state and also helped Imphal West Police in apprehending 56 Bangladeshi migrants in 2006, he stated.

The federation has been proactive in urging the legislators to bring up the issue of Inner Line Permit System in the Assembly, Jadumani asserted.

FREINDS also prevented one Oriya girl from getting the MBBS seat reserved for the state at NEIGHRIMS, Shillong in 2009. The federation also distributed relief materials to the fire victims at Phaikok Village on the Indo-Myanmar Border in 2010, he noted.

Jadumani also highlighted the formation of High Level Technical Committee on Inner Line Permit under the chairmanship of Justice RK Manisana in 2011. The report of the committee was submitted to the state government on November 5, 2011.
