Government, JDDC talk fails; district demand committe warns of Imp-Jiri road bandh

IMPHAL, November 8: Yet another round of talk between the state government and the Jiribam Districthood Demand Committee failed to bring any amicable solution late in the evening today, as the state Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh remain adamant to wait for the final report of the Committee on Reorganisation of Police and Administrative boundaries. However the two parties will further meet tomorrow at 3:30pm at the Chief Minister’s Bungalow.

The JDDC convenor M Maipaksana informed this to media persons outside the Chief Minister’s bungalow soon after the end of the meeting.

He further informed that in case of tomorrow’s talk with the government failed to bring any solution to their demand, the committee will resume its proposed total bandh along the Imphal-Jiribam highway from November 10. The total bandh remain suspended as of now after a proposal from the state government to conduct talks on their demand.

He also stated that the JDDC will be meeting the government tomorrow at 3:30pm.

He further deliberated that the district demand committee will meet with representatives of various apex-civil societies of the state to discuss the issue regarding demands for inauguration of Jiribam as a full-fledged district at the earliest.

Answering to various organizations of Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts that the proposed Jiribam district cannot incorporate any villages from the two districts, he has clarified that the proposed Jiribam district doesn’t touch a single inch of land from Tamenglong and Churachandpur district.

He further deliberated that the demand of the JDCC is to convert the existing Jiribam Sub Division of Imphal east district into a full-fledged district.

“The state Chief Minister during various public functions had himself claimed that the Jiribam sub-division has the required infrastructure and official man-power to be converted into a full-fledged district”, he further commented.

He further commented that even after making such statements, the Chief Minister has failed to convert Jiribam into a fullfledged district, which has disheartened the Jiribam public.

During today’s meeting the state government was represented by the Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh, Jiribam MLA Th Debendro, minister N Biren, minister Ph Parijat and chief secretary DS Poonia while, the JDDC team was represented by 13 members including eight members of the JDDC and five others from various civil societies of the state.
