Health minister confirms Dengue outbreak in Churachandpur

IMPHAL, November 11: Health minister L. Jayentakumar Singh today confirmed the outbreak of Dengue in Churachandpur district which have so far claimed atleast five lives in the district.

The minister made the declaration during the inauguration tour of various developmental projects today in Churanchadpur district accompanied by works minister K. Ranjit, power minister, Phungzathang Tonsing, PHED minister TN. Haokip. 

While confirming that 33 cases of Dengue have been detected in the district the health minister further declared to give possible support to the district administration to combat the spread of Dengue fever.

He informed that the health department would leave no stone unturned until the outbreak is contained and sought public co-operation adding that all heads of the departments have been instructed to take necessary action against the outbreak.

L. Jayentakumar further clarified that the situation however was not in an epidemic stage.

Our Churachandpur correspondent adds: The Dengue fever which has plagued the district of late has alarmed more and more people as the official figures put the number of positive cases of the disease to a whooping 37 persons.

As per an independent enquiry, the death toll has raised to five while reports received from the district malaria officer today claimed there was no official report about the exact numbers of death. 

“We are monitoring the situation and the exact number of people who have died due to the disease is yet to come up”, said the DMO.

“Recently blood samples of at least 17 persons have been sent to Imphal for close examination and the department has been taking every possible pre-emptive measure for which we need the cooperation of higher authorities under the state government”, further asserted the DMO.

Sources said T Phungzathang minister power, horticulture & soil conservation, had sounded an alarm bell to the state government yesterday urging it to intervene and do the needful.
