International Drug Users` day observed at various places in state

IMPHAL, November 1: The International Drug Users’ Day was observed at various places in the state today.

The Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) today observed the culmination of its mass campaign on International Drug Users’ Day which started on October 17 under the theme ‘A New Beginning for a Long Journey’.

The observation was attended by president All Manipur Working Journalist Union Ahongshangbam Mobi, general secretary HERICOUN Longjam Ratan as chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the observation, AMWJU president deliberated that the objective behind the observation of the day should not be mistaken. People should not form any misconception regarding the observation of the day. The people should take active part in the observation of the day and spread awareness on drug abuse, he added.

Further elaborating on drug abuse, he described that there are many among the drug addicts, who had wanted to take just a few doses to taste the drugs, however before long they turn addicts. The youth should be discouraged from ever tasting drugs even under peer pressure, he further added.

The International Drug Users campaign was organized by CONE in collaboration with different stake-holders and CBOs from October 17 and culminated today.

A musical concert featuring renowned singers of the state featuring Sorri Senjam, Uttam, Jenit, Arun and the Dirty Strike was also held during the observation.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) also observed the day at its secretariat hall, Yaishkul.
