IMPHAL, November 22: Unconvinced with the recent report of Union home minister denying the granting of ‘Supra state’ as circulated by the Manipur Information Centre, the Janata Dal United (JDU-U) Manipur unit today demanded a written clarification from the Union home minister, himself and make it public.

A press conference was held today at the office chamber of the party located at Paona bazaar this afternoon. Speaking to media persons during the conference, JD (U), Manipur, president, N Tombi, informed that the JDU Manipur unit will send its delegation to New Delhi to discuss feasibilities of tabling the ‘Supra state’ issue in the Parliament along with leaders of the NDA.

The president further alleged that the UPA and SPF governments have no sympathy for the people of Manipur as both have totally failed to address the grievances of the people inflicted by the prolonged economic blockade imposed along the National Highways.

Amidst this untold miseries, announcing a gift ‘Supra state’ for the Nagas at the cost of other’s sentiment is an invitation of war, said the JDU president.

The Manipur government must officially oppose to the proposed ‘Supra state’ as did by its sister states Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, he held.

“We are not opposed to the peace between the GOI and the NSCN-IM for it is considered a step towards maintaining peaceful governance and speedy development, however the JDU sense some hidden agenda and if it turns out to be against the interest of the people of the state, Chief Minister O Ibobi and the UPA government should be held responsible”, said N Tombi.

He further said that the JD (U) is opposed to the idea of conducting the ensuing 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election phase wise and instead urged to complete the election in a day for both hills and valley districts.

He also opined that the JD (U) will not keep any tie with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party.

Moreover, the party condemned the displacement of floating hut dwellers of Loktak lake.
