Major face-lift of Imphal City on the cards

IMPHAL, November 28: As the timeline of the Disturb Area Status imposed in the state will expire on November 30, the state government will held a cabinet meeting tomorrow and discuss the further extension of the Disturb Area Status, informed a reliable source.

The decision of the cabinet will be based on reports from various security forces including both central and state forces and the decision is likely to be extension of the Disturb Area Status for another one year in the state excluding seven assembly segments of the Imphal Municipal council, informed the source.

The authorities of security forces deployed in the state have already submitted their official comments on the extension of Disturb Area Status, the source added.

In their separate reports, security forces have mentioned that since the insurgency problem in the state has not completely subsided, there is a need for the further imposition of the Disturb Area Status in the state in order to contain the violent activities related to insurgency problems in the state, the source further added.

The cabinet will likely be held in the evening tomorrow.

The cabinet will also review the official reports of the constituted District Re-organization and Police Jurisdiction Committee.

Another major agenda of the cabinet meet will be the preparation of the state for the proposed December 3 visit of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the source added.

The cabinet will further discussed the transfer of the existing Raja Dhumbra High School from its present location for the construction of a shopping mall, and acquisition of land by direct purchase or negotiations of the private lands located near the school for construction of another City Heart market centre.

The cabinet will also discussed the construction of a new state guest house at the existing High Court complex at North AOC after its shifting to the newly constructed High Court complex at Capitol project; shifting of Imphal Municipal Council located at Kanglapat road to the present Manipur Legislative Assembly hall; extension of Indira park by expanding it to the existing IMC complex, the source added.
