Only one day`s petroleum product left in state: minister Biren

IMPHAL, November 5: The SPF spokesperson and CAF&PD minister, N. Biren, has informed that the stock of petrol and diesel will be exhausted within a day since transportation along the National Highway 37 has remained cut off due to the bad shape of the ‘Jatingha’ bridge, Silchar, since the last few weeks.

The minister disclosed this during a media briefing in connection with a cabinet meeting held today late in the evening.

N. Biren informed that only 214 KL of petroleum product is presently in the stock which included 214 KL of petrol, 583 KL Diesel and 1,128 KL Kerosene.

According to him, the per day consumption of the petroleum products at average is about 70 KL excluding emergency uses.

Altogether 101 trucks are informed to have been stranded at Silchar, Jiribam, Polapul, Jawai area.

The spokesperson however informed that the Union home minister during his recent visit had been apprised of the situation by the state Chief Minister during a meeting.

He said the meet deliberately discussed on the present crisis wherein it was resolved that the centre will bear all expenses for repairing the Jatingha bridge, Silchar which is currently inaccessible.

The meet also agreed to use Dholu bridge along the Jiribam-Halflong road temporarily as alternative arrangement.

Meanwhile, minister N. Biren also said that the cabinet meet agreed to create altogether 339 posts for Chandel, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Tamenglong.

He further informed that another 9 post for five grant-in-aid private colleges for science and arts department will be created. Moreover, the minister informed that the cabinet has also agreed to provide jobs to six of the remaining victims of the June 18 incidents in the transport department.

The cabinet meet also agreed to provide 70 percent compensation for the destroyed vehicles and 75 percent for the goods trucks destroyed during the SHDDC economic blockade, he said.

A major re-organisation was also done for some blocks located in both hills and valley according to administrative convenience, said the spokesperson.
